Prepaid Metering

What is Prepaid Metering?
Prepaid metering offers the opportunity to pay when you want, in the amounts you want. Instead of receiving a traditional paper bill that is generated once each month, usage is calculated daily. Prepaid customers never pay a late fee.

What are the benefits?
Our customers who are unable or unwilling to pay the required service deposit to establish or maintain electric service enjoy immediate benefits with the prepaid program.

Is there a deposit for Prepaid Service?
No. Current REMC members are eligible to have your deposit applied toward your current energy costs.  In order to begin Prepaid Electric Service, a minimum credit balance of $65.00 must be established.

How do I make payments?
Payments can be made in person, by telephone, or online. You can also view your usage, balance information and notification settings. Payments must be at least $20.00.

How do I know when my balance is low?
Prepaid customers choose how they are notified when their balance is running low. Notifications can be received via email or text message. Each prepaid customer chooses the balance at which they begin to receive notifications.

What happens if my balance reaches $0?
Electric service will be disconnected automatically when your credit balance reaches $0.00. Disconnects may occur Monday thru Friday (excluding holidays recognized by REMC) between the hours of 6:00 AM and 3:00 PM. In order to be reconnected, disconnected services must re-establish a minimum credit balance of $65.00. Reconnects will generally occur within 30 minutes of appropriate payment being made.

Are there any fees?
No. Prepaid Electric Service accounts are not subject to late payment or reconnection charges.

What are the rates?
· Service Charge: $1.21 per day
· Capacity Charge and Wholesale Power Charge: $0.09469 per kWh

How do I sign up?
You must complete a Prepaid Service Application Form to enroll in this program. You may fill it out, mail or email it in, call our office at (877) 463-7165 or stop in for details. You will be asked to pay any outstanding balance. For many customers, the deposit is enough to cover these charges.
